This release is the first step in our journey of an old world style of “port”. Although we cannot call it Port per the Government regulations because In 2005, the EU and US reached a bilateral accord to end a round of negotiations that had lasted twenty years. One of the significant parts of the agreement was that American wines could no longer use place names such as Champagne, Chianti, or Port on new wine labels unless you were commercially using them prior to that date.
The new process is that we combine the past vintages ageing in barrels and replace the portion used for bottling with the current vintage. So this release is a combination of 2017 and 2018 Cynthiana port style wine we have been ageing in French oak. Next year will be a combination od 2017, 2018, and 2019. And so on. So in 20 years, in every bottle will be 20 consecutive years blended into 1 bottle! A time capsule!
This wine is layered in aromas of red fruit that gives way to fig and vanilla. The pallet is velvety, with a vein of acidity that runs through the sweet red fruit and baking spices.
This wine has a wax top for extended ageing as this is one that can age for decades if you have the willpower. To de-cork- simply push your corkscrew directly through the wax top, as if the wax is not present.
We only made 1,800 bottles and 1,200 of which are allocated for the Q2 2019 wine club. In 2017 the pre release sold out in 1 week and this wine never hit the streets.
