A Port Style Dessert Wine. Limited amount available!

375 ml Bottle

This release is the first step in our journey of an old world style of “port”. Although we cannot call it Port per the Government regulations because In 2005, the EU and US reached a bilateral accord to end a round of negotiations that had lasted twenty years. One of the significant parts of the agreement was that American wines could no longer use place names such as Champagne, Chianti, or Port on new wine labels unless you were commercially using them prior to that date.

The new process is that we combine the past vintages ageing in barrels and replace the portion used for bottling with the current vintage. So this release is a combination of 2017 and 2018 Cynthiana port style wine we have been ageing in French oak. Next year will be a combination od 2017, 2018, and 2019. And so on. So in 20 years, in every bottle will be 20 consecutive years blended into 1 bottle! A time capsule!

This wine is layered in aromas of red fruit that gives way to fig and vanilla. The pallet is velvety, with a vein of acidity that runs through the sweet red fruit and baking spices.

This wine has a wax top for extended ageing as this is one that can age for decades if you have the willpower. To de-cork- simply push your corkscrew directly through the wax top, as if the wax is not present.

We only made 1,800 bottles and 1,200 of which are allocated for the Q2 2019 wine club. In 2017 the pre release sold out in 1 week and this wine never hit the streets.

2018 Golden Hallows Image

Our premiere Vidal Blanc and Traminette blend white wine offering a harmonious balance of fruit and acidity.

This wine is crisp, clean and refreshing. Equal parts of elegance and delicate aromatics offer tropical fruit, citrus and white flowers with loads of pear, freshly peeled apple dancing on the palate. The finish is crisp and rounded with a citrus and wet stone. This is a very enjoyable wine alone and also pairs well with shellfish, white fish, chicken, roasted pork, pastas in butter or pesto sauces. This wine should be consumed within the next 4 to 5 years to savor the harmonious balance of fruit and acidity.

Vidal Blanc and Traminette are our only white grapes planted at JOLO.  Vidal is an offspring of the Ugni Blanc grape from Italy and the Traminette is an offspring of the Gewurztraminer grape from Germany.  We press the juice into stainless steel tanks to begin its fermentation process. We use specially selected French style yeast that we believe accentuates the bright tropical fruit of the Vidal, the flowery aromatics of the Traminette, and juicy mouth-feel this wine possesses.

2017 Golden Hallows Reserve Image

We aged this wine briefly in new American Oak barrels, enough to give it a “kiss of oak” to yield a harmonious balance of fruit, acid, and velvety mouth-feel.  Initial wafts of toasted almonds, caramel and candied lemon gives way to notes of pear, pineapple and white flowers. This wine is crisp, refreshing, and elegant.  This is a very enjoyable wine alone and also pairs well with white fish, pork, chicken, butter or cream sauces or soft white cheeses such as Brie.   Enjoy!

2018 Pink Image

Our crisp and refreshing Rosé wine perfect for porch sipping or paired with your favorite dish.

The 2018 growing season here in the Yadkin Valley was marked by significant rainfall in the early spring and summer. Warmer, sunnier days came at just the right time to help slowly ripen the fruit. We watched closely to harvest at just the optional times pre and post Hurricane Florence. This allowed the fruit to mature in a well-balanced fashion. This crisp and elegant Rosé wine is layered with enticing aromas of watermelon, bright cherry and raspberry. Strawberry, raspberry and citrus tantalize the palate ending with a lip-smacking finish. This is a very enjoyable wine alone and also pairs well with goat cheese, salads with vinaigrettes, shellfish, roasted vegetables, fruit salads or a bad day. This wine should be consumed within the next four to five years to savor the balance of fruit and acidity. Enjoy!

2017 Happy Endings Image

Our Yadkin Valley Vidal Blanc is from a single lot of older vines. This "sweet wine" was made from the same Vidal Blanc as the Golden Hallows and then blended with the "sweet reserve" juice to provide the residual sugar. It  has a residual sugar level of just over 6 imparting the perfect sweetness. Although we label it as a sweet wine, it is flexible enough to complement Pâtés and Foie Gras. This exceptional wine was made in limited quantities without undergoing a secondary fermentation to preserve the bright fruit and mineral qualities. This wine exhibits the care and passion taken in winemaking at JOLO Winery & Vineyards.

COMMENTS FROM THE WINE MAKER:

2017 provided a very good growing season for this fruit.  Very little rainfall and warm sunny days slowly ripen the fruit and provided great balance lending itself to be made into a dry or sweet wine. So we did both. This wine is medium bodied and is layered with aromas of the stone fruit, honeysuckle, and hints of pear and apple. White peach, pear and minerals dance on the palate with a velvety long finished. While this wine is enjoyable now it will continue to evolve and develop over the years in the bottle. This wine pairs well with cakes, ice cream, chocolate, tarts, cookies as well as foie gras and pâtés.  This wine should be well chilled and will age gracefully over the next decade and beyond. Serve chilled & Enjoy!
