Devil’s Hill derives its name from the devilishly difficult hillside where we grow varieties that are included in this wine. This hill at 1024 feet above sea level, is situated on a beautiful south-facing slope at a 27.6° angle, which makes for very difficult farming and harvesting. Because of the hill’s incline and the underlying quartzite granite and quartz schist along with decades of erosion it causes these vines to dig very deeply with slow progress to establish themselves. The first harvest was not for six years after the original planting.
You will pick up the alluring minerality, an almost crushed stone, and a flinty aspect on the nose and palate. This wine has a rustic quality imparting enchanting aromatics and flavors of dark cherry, shortbread cookie, spice, forest floor, crushed stone, and overtones of shaved dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is vibrant but lush with a long lingering finish and grippy tannins.
